Overview:

Introduction

The purpose of this training is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience that will enable them to identify conditions capable of causing a fire, know how to use a fire extinguisher, respond appropriately to fire emergencies and follow a fire evacuation plan. 

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand basic fire safety in workplace.
  • Understand the principles of prevention and control of fire in the workplace.
  • Understand actions to be taken in the event of a fire.

Unit 1:

  • Fire and emergencies
  • The costs of fire for the employer, employee and society
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Fire spread

Unit 2:

  • Reducing the chances of fire
  • Sources of fuel & heat/ignition
  • Reducing the chances of fire
  • Fire safety checks

Unit 3:

  • Actions in case of fire
  • Contacting the emergency services
  • Extinguishers and their use

Unit 4:

  • vacate the place.
  • Application of the fire triangle theory in preventing fires at work sites.
  • Perform a simple fire risk assessment in the building.

Unit 5:

  • Understand and use the principles of fire suppression.
  • Understand the meaning of flash point and auto ignition.
  • Understanding the behavior of fire as it spreads.
