Overview

Introduction:

Corrosion control in oil and gas represents a structured engineering function that aligns material performance, environmental exposure, and asset integrity within industrial environments. It connects corrosion mechanisms, protection systems, and monitoring structures to maintain reliability, safety, and operational continuity across facilities. This training program presents corrosion frameworks, prevention models, and control systems that define corrosion management within oil and gas operations. It provides an institutional perspective on how organizations identify corrosion risks, select protection approaches, and sustain asset integrity through structured management systems.

Program Objectives:

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze corrosion types and mechanisms within oil and gas environments.

  • Evaluate environmental and operational factors influencing corrosion behavior.

  • Assess corrosion prevention and mitigation frameworks within industrial systems.

  • Examine inspection and monitoring structures within corrosion control environments.

  • Explore corrosion management systems and asset integrity alignment structures.

Target Audience:

  • Corrosion engineers.

  • Maintenance and reliability professionals.

  • Inspection and integrity specialists.

  • Pipeline and facility operators.

  • HSE officers within oil and gas environments.

Program Outline:

Unit 1:

Introduction to Corrosion in Oil and Gas:

  • Corrosion fundamentals within industrial environments.

  • Types of corrosion across pitting, galvanic, and stress corrosion cracking.

  • Environmental conditions influencing corrosion across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors.

  • Impact of corrosion on safety, reliability, and operational performance.

  • Standards and regulatory frameworks across API, NACE, and ISO environments.

Unit 2:

Corrosion Prevention Methods:

  • Material selection considerations within oil and gas applications.

  • Protective coatings and lining systems across pipelines and equipment.

  • Design structures influencing corrosion resistance.

  • Corrosion inhibitor classifications within operational environments.

  • Alignment between prevention approaches and asset conditions.

Unit 3:

Cathodic Protection Techniques:

  • Cathodic protection principles across galvanic and impressed current systems.

  • System design structures within protection environments.

  • Monitoring and control systems within cathodic protection frameworks.

  • Common issues within protection systems and system behavior patterns.

  • Standards alignment across cathodic protection environments.

Unit 4:

Inspection and Monitoring of Corrosion:

  • Non-destructive testing methods across ultrasonic, radiographic, and magnetic techniques.

  • Monitoring systems across coupons, probes, and sensor based environments.

  • Inspection structures within pipelines and equipment systems.

  • Data analysis frameworks within corrosion assessment processes.

  • Documentation structures within inspection environments.

Unit 5:

Corrosion Management and Maintenance Plans:

  • Corrosion management frameworks within asset integrity systems.

  • Integration between corrosion control and maintenance environments.

  • Risk based inspection structures within operational systems.

  • Long term corrosion control strategies within industrial environments.

  • Alignment between management systems and asset reliability outcomes.
