Overview

Introduction:

Effective project management depends on the integration of scope definition, scheduling, resource planning, and performance control to achieve project objectives within established time and cost constraints. Project planning and control systems provide structured approaches to managing project deliverables, estimating resource requirements, monitoring progress, and identifying deviations from approved baselines. This training program examines project scope management, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), scheduling methodologies, Critical Path Method (CPM), resource estimation, cost planning, and integrated project control systems. It also explores Earned Value Management (EVM), schedule and cost variance analysis, performance forecasting, and project recovery frameworks that support informed decision making and project delivery effectiveness.

Program Objectives:

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze project planning principles, scope definition requirements, and Work Breakdown Structure components.

  • Evaluate project scheduling methodologies, critical path analysis, and schedule risk considerations.

  • Assess resource estimation, cost planning, and project budgeting structures.

  • Examine integrated project control systems, Earned Value Management, and performance monitoring indicators.

  • Determine project recovery requirements through schedule and cost variance analysis and performance forecasting.

Targeted Audience:

  • Project Managers and Project Coordinators.

  • Project Planning and Scheduling Engineers.

  • Project Controls and Cost Control Professionals.

  • Construction and Engineering Project Supervisors.

  • Project Management Office (PMO) Professionals.

Program Outline:

Unit 1:

Project Planning Foundations and Scope Management:

  • Project management principles, planning processes, and project lifecycle structures.

  • Project scope definition, scope planning, and deliverable requirements.

  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), work packages, and project decomposition.

  • Statement of Work (SOW), technical baselines, and scope documentation.

  • Scope execution plans, deliverable acceptance criteria, and scope control requirements.

Unit 2:

Project Scheduling Methodologies and Critical Path Analysis:

  • Project schedule planning, activity sequencing, and duration estimation.

  • Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM), network logic, and activity dependencies.

  • Critical Path Method (CPM), critical path analysis, and total and free float.

  • Milestone schedules, Line of Balance (LOB), and recurring activity scheduling.

  • Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), schedule contingencies, and project acceleration techniques.

Unit 3:

Project Resource Estimation, Cost Planning, and Budgeting:

  • Resource planning frameworks and estimation of labor, equipment, and materials.

  • Production rates, workforce productivity, and resource utilization requirements.

  • Direct and indirect cost estimation and project cost classification.

  • WBS based cost coding, project budgeting, and cost baseline structures.

  • Resource allocation, project cash flow analysis, and time-phased cost planning.

Unit 4:

Integrated Project Monitoring and Performance Control:

  • Integrated project control systems and progress measurement frameworks.

  • Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and project performance baselines.

  • Schedule and cost variance indicators and project performance analysis.

  • Progress control charts, trend analysis, and cost and schedule forecasting.

  • Labor and material cost control, earned value reporting, and performance monitoring structures.

Unit 5:

Project Recovery, Schedule Control, and Cost Performance:

  • Project recovery frameworks and identification of schedule and cost deviations.

  • Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI) analysis.

  • Schedule and cost control limits, performance thresholds, and variance tolerances.

  • Recovery schedule evaluation, resource adjustments, and corrective planning considerations.

  • Revised schedule and cost baselines, recovery performance indicators, and project control requirements.
