Overview

Introduction:

Production planning and control represent structured functions that govern the coordination of resources, scheduling of operations, and flow of materials within manufacturing environments. They align planning frameworks, capacity structures, and control mechanisms to ensure efficient production, timely delivery, and optimal utilization of resources. This training program presents production planning models, scheduling structures, and control systems aligned with modern industrial operations. It provides an institutional perspective on how organizations structure production processes, manage operational flow, and maintain efficiency through integrated planning and control systems.

Program Objectives:

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the structural components and planning levels in production systems.

  • Distinguish between sequencing models and resource coordination approaches.

  • Examine control mechanisms used to track production progress and identify deviations.

  • Explore material and inventory planning models aligned with production flow.

  • Gain the required skills to interpret production related data to support operational decision making.

Targeted Audience:

  • Production Planners and Coordinators.

  • Operations and Plant Supervisors.

  • Logistics and Supply Officers.

  • Manufacturing Analysts.

  • Industrial Strategy and Workflow Teams.

Program Outline:

Unit 1:

Production Planning Foundations:

  • Purpose and scope of production planning in industrial systems.

  • Types of planning, including strategic, tactical, and operational.

  • Key steps used for planning inputs including capacity, labor, lead time, and material.

  • Functional relationships between production and organizational targets.

  • Models for synchronizing planning with corporate objectives.

Unit 2:

Scheduling Structures and Resource Allocation:

  • Logic of job sequencing and order prioritization.

  • Time allocation methods for multi-stage production.

  • Resource planning measures across labor and machine groups.

  • Load balancing techniques within production units.

  • Constraints affecting scheduling reliability.

Unit 3:

Monitoring Production Performance:

  • Structures for real time tracking and variance classification.

  • Metrics for measuring plan adherence and efficiency.

  • Reporting methods for production status and workflow issues.

  • Tools for evaluating output consistency.

  • Corrective planning mechanisms based on control outputs.

Unit 4:

Material Coordination and Flow Structuring:

  • Integration process of MRP and production scheduling systems.

  • How to structure bill of materials (BOM) for planning use.

  • Material release timing and flow mapping techniques.

  • Importance of linking material availability to production sequence accuracy.

  • Oversight of stock alignment with batch requirements.

Unit 5:

Planning System Evaluation and Operational Integration:

• Evaluation criteria for the effectiveness of institutional planning structures.

• Structural relationship between production metrics and managerial decision logic.

• Coordination principles governing planning systems across organizational departments.

• Position of production plans within resource allocation and capacity structuring frameworks.

• Governance and performance alignment mechanisms for integrated planning environments.
